What to expect pre and post Cisco Acquisition?

Anyone have experience working for a company acquired by Cisco that has any insights to share on what to expect? Should I expect a Broadcom type situation or something less hostile? TC 300k 15YoE #thousandeyes #appdynamics #Meraki

Maybe you want to tag Thousandeyes, Meracki, AppDynamics

Thanks done.

I have worked in a company acquired by Cisco. Less hostile than Broadcom in the sense no layoffs. However, expect much lower RSU refreshers leading to comp dropping, which results in top engineers leaving.

I was wondering why Broadcom was mentioned. I was at Cisco for 10 years before moving to Broadcom. I’ll take Broadcom over Cisco anyway. Chuck has been horrible for the company. The stock price has gone sideways for 5 years.

Op is worried about layoffs and Broadcom is known to layoff aggressively post acquisitions. Broadcom is good for career growth, comp. Cisco is good if you are looking to coast.

So far, not too bad. We still operate quite independently (no major interference from Chucky, from a SWE point of view; though I've been seeing an increasing number of OKRs targeted for Cisco events). Pay is good, considering Cisco's average; good amount of refreshers every year. Is there anything in particular you want to know?

This helps. Thanks, ciscode. Can you share if there were any layoffs just prior to the acquisition? Or immediately post acquisition? There certainly must be some redundant roles. The question would be how long would Cisco persist with such roles? Would they cut such roles immediately? What was the transition period until such roles are eliminated? Would appreciate some insights on this.

The sales department was the most impacted one. I don't know if they were laid off before or after the acquisition. Engineering had very little to no impact. I'm not aware of any layoff among software engineers because of the acquisition; a few peeps left Thousandeyes, but that was their choice. The small group of PMs and researchers were also left untouched. As a general rule of thumb, the closer you are to the development of the product, the safer you are.

Thanks for some context I really appreciate it. How did IT HR Finance and Security do? I can’t imagine they didn’t absorb all of the redundant functions.

Security and IT did well, I believe; HR and Finance not so well
