I’ve decided to purchase a 34inch ultrawide. Between LG and Samsung, there’s so many options that range in price from $350 - $799. This will be for work and personal only — but zero games. What should I be looking for when purchasing a quality monitor? They all look almost the same, so I dont know why there is a $400 and a $700 one. Right now, here is what I know I want. 34inch. 1440p Curved. The stand doesn’t matter since I will find one that is mountable on a VESA. Able to connect a Mac and a PC so I can switch between work and personal PC easily. What features do I need to look at that will dramatically improve/hinder my experience? IPS vs VA: do I need IPS? 60hz vs 100hz. Do I need 100hz since this is for productivity only? What about other features? Wha should I be looking at? #hybrid #remotework #wfh
I got Dell U4021 and love it. It’s kind of too big though
Resolution, build quality, refresh rate. IPS for best viewing angle, 144hz is the way, the difference is night and day, even if you don’t play games, your eyes will thank you.
Assuming your laptops have usb-c/thunderbolt get a monitor with a usb-c input so it can act as a hub. It’s great for switching between work and personal laptop with one cable for power, video and usb devices. Also helps cleanup your desktop by eliminating cables. I have the LG34WN80C-B and it’s awesome.
Thanks. That’s one on my radar.
Definitely get something that has is actually thunderbolt compliant and not just USB-C. Some monitors have single cable charging & video via USB but it’s not actually TB3/4. TB is way more reliable and not as quirky. That’s why I got the U40 even though it’s a little too big for my liking.
IMHO bump up the resolution to 4K if you really enjoy high quality definition display. 1440p looks nice upto 27" but it starts getting pixelated going towards 34".
Yea. I was debating between 4K and 1440. Unfortunately, I don’t see any 4K wide screen
You can consider 32" screens also. They too are pretty wide.
I got a 34 uw from AOC for 350ish as Deal from Amazon. It’s good enough for me. I don’t play video games.
For productivity I'd go 4k, 120hz. The refresh makes a huge difference and you'll see it immediately.
Only 34 inch monitor I have been using is Acer predator x34. It has been great so far. I use it mainly for work and occasional gaming. Only problem I face is when people join meeting with low resolution display they cannot see what I share properly unless I make it full screen or zoom in. Other than that it is a great purchase.
I recently ordered Samsung S34J550WQN. It is not curved but I can think it’s budget friendly. Not yet delivered. I will be using only for work. So I went with VA but it has 75hz.

No difference for your case. I’d get LG personally and invest in good KVM machine.
Do I need a KVM if the monitor advertises that you can “connect 2 input sources’?
I use KVM because it’s convenient to switch between Windows machine and Mac
