What total comp do you need in NYC?

What total compensation do you need to live a good comfortable life in NYC with your parter? Let’s assume you want to live in a nice part of Manhattan or Williamsburg (you get the idea), and have a nice 1-bedroom apt. And you want to enjoy life aswell, so you’re doing stuff in the weekends. But, you also want to save money aswell so you’re savings grow. Let me know what you New Yorkers think! #new york #totalcomp

Ignore the bots commenting about your TC. If you want to be comfortable as a single person (luxury building, can travel freely, shopping, eating out) then you want at least 170k base per year. If you add a partner, I would say you want at least 270k/yr to factor for increased bills, space, and more consumption.

Totally depends on your lifestyle. For a single person. A base of 170-190k can give you a very comfortable lifestyle

my base is 155K and i can do what you described above as a single person living in a large 1bd. i will say tho, after doing all that and saving 20-25% per paycheck for investing and short term saving goals, there isn’t much left to spare (which is fine by me). i also prefer cooking to eating out and do that for 70% of my meals. so i’d say anywhere from 155-170K base.

What do you do with ticket restaurant cash? I end up ordering stuff half the time
