What will be the impact on pending AOS (i485) applicants from ROW if the H.R.1044 / S.386 passes?

I am not sure how the “do no harm” provision of the bill works. Not sure if the 15% quota also helps because it is so less and may create a backlog of its own for ROW applicants. Also, I request everyone to discuss the question at hand and not debate the merits or demerits of the bill. There are two sides to the argument and we should sympathize with both the camps.

It didn’t, why bother.

EY bowypanda OP Sep 21, 2019

It very much might. Mike Lee will bring it back to floor next week for voting and Perdue who objected it said he very much supported the bill and that it aligns with President’s views.

Durbin is planning to put another hold on it. Even if it passes it goes back to house again for a vote. From there, prez had to sign it. Chances are bleak.

That block is temporary. See the discussion - https://www.c-span.org/video/?c4817675/s386-sn-david-perdue-objection-sn-lee-reponse

S386 is a temp relief not a solution. Even if.. It will pass just to keep Indians in check and stop them moving out of US for now. Many ppl here are just worried about their wait time and H1B sweat shops, but the real reason for the bill to progress is not anyone but big companies who are worried about losing talent. Those same big companies are also the reason why no immigration change ever been possible for H1B , they just need slaves who work for them always. Of H1B they can only switch companies if GC they will create their own or do what ever they want(Switch and work for small startups).. Just afraid of competition and poaching its the big companies who stops this and now they decided to do something to keep talent going out. That's it. All unnecessary debates or hate against/between immigrants are just waste of time and unwanted stress. Politics or the food we eat only business ppl decide.

Please see the description of my post. It’s not to debate the merits and demerits and I am sure you have valid points. I am just trying to assess the impact on a specific group (pending AOS applications with current priority dates).

AOS dates for densely populated countries will move to 2014 in 1 year. Backlog will be wiped off in about 5 years.

Microsoft llfunfunf Sep 21, 2019

No, in 10 years. Pulse you will have maybe 10x Indians flood in, then the line will be even longer

Amazon Jeff B! Sep 27, 2019

So all those Indian food trucks in downtown Seattle will have 10x line in the upcoming years?

Uber dreamyI Sep 21, 2019

No effect!

EY bowypanda OP Sep 21, 2019

No effect? How so?

Uber dreamyI Sep 21, 2019

Before the law goes in effect for full, you’ll get the GC. It will take 2 more years of ramp as I understand. TBH, it should have been a longer ramp but the numbers suggest that all 140 approved ones will get their GC with that ramp.

Microsoft uuuuuuu Sep 22, 2019

Yes, bill carries specific language and calls out anyone with i140 approved from ROW will have same or better wait times. Any new applicant irrespective of country of origin goes back in the line.
