Would the quality of its product drastically improve? Would its stock price also drastically improve? Or nothing would happen?
Please keep your leet coders to yourselves. We want humans making products for other humans, not code fanatics wanking over code purity.
.. except Microsoft in SF Bay literally is code fanatics asking leetcode. Exception is outlook iOS team that wants you to build them a 30 hour project to just talk to them.
I'm sorry. Please accept my personal apologies. I hope you will find a more sensible team at another location.
Code fanatics wanking over code purity - this is awesome.
Not a damn thing 99% of us are replaceable
Offering high salary would probably increase its desirability among the applicant pool, at least for more people to choose to interview at Microsoft (so the offer can at least be used as a negotiation tool with other companies). To start stealing people from fb or google, they would also need to offer interesting challenges and career prospects.
I think we do. There's so many interesting green field projects in azure, AI&R, and hololens/devices. Hell, even office and dynamics and whatnot are pushing ML into their products
I was thinking more about the reputation of Microsoft as a political place. If politics govern what people can work on and their advancement, this may be a huge deterrent to a lot of people.
Oracle cloud is doing exactly this - throwing money. I’d wait a year or two to see how that helped
Comp has not helped Google or Fb build anything outside their competitive strength. Acquisitions or special founder attention has. Why would it help msft?
Define competitive strength? I believe google is done a decent job of this, depending on how you define competitive strength
Not disagreeing only making the point that comp would not allow Bing to compete with Google just like the higher comp has not enabled Google to beat Office. First mover advantage and distribution strengths has been the biggest differentiator in these platform plays and you can't really buy these with comp.
What would really help Microsoft is the culture of making big bets using a frugal approach and customer obsession. Sort of the Amazon model. Hard to buy these cultural aspects with money. We do see some successes already but more of this is needed. Under Ballmer Azure or AI initiatives or various new Office products would have been suffocated.
You'd have pitchforks from current employees and shareholder's.
Nothing would happen. In the way they technically do offer competing salaries. It’s a matter of leveling across companies. Leveling is a function of how you market and sell yourself during your interviews.
No, the quality of its product is fine. The biggest impact would be that work life balance reduces
