Considering places to move from Seattle in the next year or so. Orlando is much more affordable (especially housing) and weather is much better. Anyone willing to share some pros/cons of this move? Thanks!
Where are you planning on working?
That, I am not sure of yet...any recommendations? Or any other (more job options) in FL you’d recommend? Although, I wouldn’t wanna life in Miami..
Not really. I wouldn't mind moving to Florida eventually myself though. What's wrong with Miami?
Get a gun and a low rider
Haha lol. I haven’t heard of Orlando been dangerous...
That's just to fit in, not for protection.
Orlando area has less well paying tech jobs compared to Seattle.
True, but you can but a nice house for 300k!!
Totally. If you are set financially, it is a good place to move.
Very large scary bugs and animals that want to kill you. Other than that, it’s the happiest place on earth.
Like gators in the pool?
Pffft. The least of your worries. 😎
Orlando would be great in the winter time. The city actually gets more annual rainfall than Seattle because when it rains, it pours. The summers are hot and humid. Seattle is expensive but it’s because it’s great place to live. You get what you pay for so there is a reason Orlando is much more affordable.
Seattle would be great if it had great weather!!! Not a fan of the rain all the damn time...figure not worth paying close to a million for housing here when you’re depressed a 3rd of the year
No seasons. No culture. No natural beauty (the same swamp, everywhere you look). The worst form of urban sprawl, things that are "close" to you may take 15 min by car. And you better have a car.
No natural beauty? Is the water and ocean a natural beauty? What do you think about St. Petersburg then?
Beaches are like a 45 min drive away if that's your kind of thing..
I assume you found a job in Orlando that's good enough and pays well. otherwise the question is dumb. Orlando has tropical weather, it's as humid as Seattle but warm. summer is too hot and winter is just lovely. The people over there are not as rich and educated and smart as in Seattle, they mostly work in tourism. there are real women there who look like women and looking to have hetreosexual sex with men. weird shit. Finally it's so goddamn cheap I couldn't believe. 500k buys you a house in an elite enclave that looks like downtown Palo Alto minus the garbage. Lots of expensive restaurants with beautiful people. and women. coming from SF it's a culture shock to see so many women who look like women, I just can't let it go. Traffic in Orlando is very bad, it competes with LA. To summarize, if I had an offer in Orlando that pays 70% what I make in SF, I would take the next plane. If I lived in Seattle and haven't killed myself yet (as so many do, check suicide stats), I would settle for 50%.
Thanks for your input! And yeah, you seem to understand about the downside of living in Seattle! 😐. I actually wanna get into real estate in FL and gotta do some research to see the market there....I hear Orlando is growing at a 35%!
FL real estate is doing well, many places are seeing higher income migrants and the future looks good. On the other hand you don't want to move there without money, since they don't have much money to pay you.
I did the opposite and moved to Seattle from Orlando. Cost of living is drastically different if you are not downtown. Otherwise, I liked everything about Seattle 10x more. Except the rain.
Hmmm...don’t you miss the tropical weather though? And the beaches?? How’s the job market over there? Is there somewhere better in FL you’d recommend?
How often do you go into the mountains from Seattle? That's like the beaches for Orlando, except there is arguably way more stuff to do in woods/mountains.
Will move to Seattle from Orlando soon... Cons of Orlando is the lack of job opportunity, if it has, I would probably stay. If you are US resident, actually some job opportunities such as Lockheed Martin, NASA related small company, Disney, Florida health and so on. Another reason is I am tired of the only green color every where, would like to have spring and fall. Pros: rain and summer is not that bad, considering sunshine state, and Disney and all other theme parks and how many tourists are visiting every day. You can spend a vacation here for one month here. House is much cheaper. My two houses can only be the down pay in Seattle
Hurricane is not that bad for Orlando since it is exactly in the center
Thank you for the input man! Appreciate it! Why are you moving to Seattle then? Haha..
But it doesn’t rain often?...especially compared to Seattle...
Depends on season. During the summer, you'll have thunderstorms like clockwork at 2 pm.
