When employment based immigrants from India ask for equality (removing per-country caps). Blind just throws a ton of hateful whataboutism at them. 1. Whatabout diversity? (Diversity visa) 2. Whatabout abuse? (Bills tighten H1 fraud) 3. Whatabout "they knew it all along"? (First, they didn't, not when they came 10+ years ago. Second, so what?) 4. Whatabout increasing overall GCs? (That's a poison pill. If not, everyone can do that after equality). 5. Whatabout temporary visa? (First, tell that to H1Bs born elsewhere. Second, it's not temporary after I-140). It's extremely tiring and toxic. Being told to continue waiting due to hateful spite while someone born elsewhere gets their GC in 2 years, and becomes a citizen. TC: 300k
Yea it sucks. :(
It's their definition of equality, and everybody is tired of listening to their whining.
You saying national origin *should* be a discriminating factor in employment based?
Yes. It's a not perfect but good enough proxy for diversity (of culture, background, opinion, etc.). Indians argue that opening the flood gate wouldn't change the demographics from the country scale, or maybe even state (CA) point of view, which is correct, but fails to observe the local clustering and distribution of migrants. FWIW, from long term perspective (getting house and starting family), I want Bay Area to keep being western instead of turning into an Indian state.
What about “we don’t owe you anything, and as citizens it’s we who vote on immigration laws, not you.” Personally, I’d be very uncomfortable if we suddenly let 5 million people from any one specific country become citizens. No offence to the Indian/Chinese people, but It can affect the voting demographics of a democratic country. It’s better to let these changes happen gradually over time.
Employment based immigration is less than 14% of all immigration. Know your facts before you wear tinfoil hat.
How does that figure matter in the discussion at all? The real statistic is, how many people are currently on these employment-based visas currently? About 5-7 million? With the majority of them being just from one or 2 countries: India and China. You’re basically proposing that the immigration process for this many people be loosened up significantly. I’m against that. And I believe so too would be the majority of Americans. In any case, Americans don’t care about this issue enough for it to even come to a vote.
India better than USA any way
no
Stfu with your India hate
The United States is a country that provides a safe and regulated environment where business can thrive. It has a responsibility to protect itself and it’s citizenry first. Any immigration based employment program should be evaluated based on its long term impact on existing citizens. To consider other factors would be immoral.
Funny how I once read a post saying US was built by H1B 😂😂
Whataboutism == cudgel the left uses to squash legitimate criticism of their policies.
If less people from one country would come in then there wouldn’t be a backlog. Per country caps are fair. We can’t give GC to everyone and if one country took all the slots then everyone from other places couldn’t get in at all.
This is exactly what have happened so H1B. It’s next to impossible for European to get one if there’s 5 Indians waiting to get every slot.
Maybe country caps should be there for H1B then, instead of the lottery system it is now? Why put existing H1Bs who have been here for decades through so much unnecessary stress and uncertainty? Country caps for green cards make no sense.
A lot of people on blind are closeted racists and have an avenue to let it out anonymously. Don’t go asking on blind for peoples opinions on things like h1b, they don’t really have empathy for anybody and don’t know what it’s like to be stuck in backlog forever because of where you were born.
Majority of people on blind are Indian so I think they do know…
Lots of people on blind are not Indian, and I really hope my rants on this thread gives people a shred of empathy for what Indians have to go through. It’s incredibly unfair to be singled out because of your country of birth. And demoralizing when so many people here think it’s okay because they think US will become the next India 🙄
I disagree that the system is unfair, unjust or cruel by design. Entitled folks such as yourself will force their way into any country and cry foul. But that’s you. Enjoy the sulking and delusional living.
Yea just pity party on illegals so ur white savior mentality can be consummated
