I hear mRNA printing is p hot these days
I feel like I need to vote SaMD just to feel relevant anymore 🤣
Actively involved in AI in this space and I kinda disagree with it being the top answer. It’s definitely a huge deal, but only indirectly, it plays second fiddle to what I think is actually becoming huge: medical devices. Specifically, consumer-oriented devices that measure things that previously could only be measured in clinics. CGM’s are the big contender here, but there are others that are still developing
There are two big parts to this ecosystem: detection and therapies. Detection was previously a very point-detection process (blood tests, visiting the doctor, biopsy, etc), but now there is a potential to do a lot of detection in extremely noninvasive ways continuously through devices + AI Therapies also seem to be going through a revolution right now, but I’m not too educated on that side. From what I can tell though, it seems like their revolution is simply increasing their understanding of the problem, not helping deliver it at scale more efficiently
Majority here are software engineers. That's the only one they could understand
Genome sequencing and editing
Gene therapy
I work in biotech and I would say diagnostics is huge especially cause of COVID-19 where people want to be able to be tested quickly.
I work on AI but I would say large molecules, as I’m assuming that includes mRNA, gene therapy, Bi-specifics, and the rest. That work is really going to change a lot. There will always be a place for small molecules, but these biologics developments are really transformative
What type of AI work is Gilead doing? Was thinking of applying soon
Well I’m leaving soon so take that for what’s it’s worth. I’d say it’s a mixed bag and we’re certainly not doing anything cutting edge or even with cutting edge tools. The scientists are great but I have little faith in leadership. But I recommend getting a second opinion. Pay and benefits have been fantastic, though. $15k 401k match and Christmas and mid summer week off
Forced to vote for 👽
Yup
I work in a small molecule drug discovery company and would say that biologics and gene therapy is going to be transformative (see e.g. Vertex trying out a vaccine for heart disease, that alone would add some years in life expectancy world-wide). Also agree with others that medical devices is about to take off, though regulations might be an obstacle (compared to e.g. Europe).
MDR has made things more difficult in EU.
For some reason I find easier to get e.g. CGMs from Europe without a doc prescription than in the US

Hypocrisy of Indians
What about telemedicine?
Telemedicine/ virtual care is digital health not biotech/ pharma
Gotcha makes sense. Thanks!
