I have an offer from Cisco Outshift for the MLE role. The team works on Gen AI development and productization. I would like to hear from any current or past Cisco employees who have either worked or have knowledge about the teams in Cisco Outshift. I would like to learn about the following things: 1) WLB 2) how big are the teams 3) work culture TC : 185k #tech #cisco #machinelearningengineer #datascience #wlb
TC is pretty bad compared to Amazon, but they're hiring in people at a higher grade for that team than normal, so who knows. All the managers are senior IC on that team are Indian, along with the usual culture. Outshift is one of the better groups at Cisco and the WLB balance is good, but if you're looking to advance your career or build your skills, it's not going to happen. There's very little innovation, lots of politics, and probably the product will either be killed off in a couple of years or never make much market headway. And Cisco has layoffs every six months. That group is probably immune for 2-3 years, eventually... The VP for that group is in particular pretty bad.
Thanks very much for the honest response. That really helps me in making calculated decisions. The team that I interviewed is very new at Outshift working on GenAI and some folks in the team are from Amazon. I'm afraid they would have a similar work culture as in Amazon, not sure if there will still be politics for a new team. Also could you explain what you mean by VP is bad. The hiring manager mentioned it's an incubation center so I was expecting more thrust on innovation.
If you don't mind me asking, what was the interview process like?
