How's the sentiment? Do you enjoy what you do?
Bad timing, I'd wait 6 months to see where the chips fall.
There is a lot of legacy code in a monolithic stack, but over the past year most things have been modularized and updated. It's not perfect, bit it's getting there. You gave to remember, we've been around over a decade. Tech has changed a lot. Plenty of other products to work on - lots of things involving big data and real time analytics for musicians , advertisers, and users. Just got a new docker cloud - pretty sweet. Those are all modularized microservices. Quick iteration with oversight by your team. Some looking to be open sourced.
I feel like open source at Pandora is a bit of an afterthought at best, but the rest of this I agree with.
Do you mean that we should open-source our weird Cassandra like data store (with a postgres backend) or our vms that aren't really virtual machines?
Politics increase exponentially as you move up the ladder. The culture is decently friendly with laid back work hours. Pay is below average. Some product folks are completely out of touch, no original ideas, lots of power tripping, and weird priorities (how do we still not have a queue feature for on demand playback??). Lack of direction from the top and constant leadership changes and reorgs. Mass exodus company wide. Stock is in the shitter. Wouldn't recommend
Based on what I've heard, things sound pretty negative. Let me spin this back for you... *Why* do you want to work at Pandora?
I haven't worked there but spoke with some people who did and his experience sounded pretty negative. Lots of politics, outdated tech, and no real commitment to make a great product from an eng perspective.
Haven't really experienced any politics, culture is definitely a strong point at P. Other points are debatable, but I'd probably id myself by doing so.
@intuuvj - everywhere is going to have legacy code, that's inevitable. Are there efforts to refactor to newer technologies? Or building new features in new tech? Or is there reluctance to advance?
