Seeing people I know that aren’t that smart get into faang as a BA/PM/Recruitment/sales but it seems the bar is so much higher for SWE
I met a photographer at Apple. I bet a high school student could do the majority of their work. Do you find that impressive? Probably not. Being an engineer is way more impressive and the TC/growth is probably better regardless of where you are.
Being a good photographer is a skill, why don’t you try doing their job and see if anyone will pay you
Take pictures of people at an event? Super easy.
HR at faang VS SWE at a state government SWE wins
Whatever brings more $$ for longer period of time is prestigious
The bar is only high for people without connections. People get their friends/family jobs in every company. At Netflix you can’t even get an interview unless you have a close referral lmao. I’m sure no one is abusing that
🙄
?
Don't compare yourself to others & don't live for prestige, just go and be happy
Such a shallow perspective
Why is it shallow?
About 5% of total labor force in the US work in tech, and you are comparing people from less than 1%. For example, college students comparing arts/lit and math sound quite stupid dont you think? They are vastly different. If you ask engineers, they will value person with engineering background. If you ask artists, they will value artists. So your question/poll already has the answer, which is why I question your intention and shallowness.
