After reading https://us.teamblind.com/s/dggjYAVb I realized Google is riding on the coattails of YouTube, the search engine and email. Why can’t google actually make innovative products?
You forgot Chrome and Android. But yes for all their resources they shouldn’t have fallen behind in AI
All of the above.
Clueless management that doesn't want to risk anything
Too much process in everything
Too many smart people don’t know how to collaborate and respect each other.

Innovation is what you call yourself AFTER you have market dominance. The real question is, what is causing Google to lose market dominance.
Leadership lack of vision. Org structure is horrible, it's a clear hindrance to broad collaboration. Promos don't incentivize the right things. Product decisions make you go wtf.
Your goal at Google is to get a great promotional packet. No one gets a good packet if a project bombs. The risk is not worth the reward. Your good packet is meeting the exact kpis your manager gave you, which they got from their manager. It’s a totally different game than a startup.
This. The current incentive structure for employees hurts the business. Instead of doing what is strategically right for the business, it’s optimizing for the wrong things.
