I’m a hardware engineer but I’m finding it hard to move around because the niche skill set I’ve developed. I work on semiconductors tools basically doing test engineering and validation. However it seems like I only have options within the semiconductors space but most are looking for phds (Samsung and Intel ignoring my applications) and I only have a bachelors. I’m thinking of switching to cloud engineering to switch into tech. My friends in software and cloud engineering are having the opposite effect with dozens of offers while it’s been a dessert on my end.
You are asking the wrong question. A cloud engineer is fundamentally software, networking, security,...etc. Yes there are many more opportunities vs silicon development. Expect a long road though where you spend 2-3 years making the transition. Need to do things on the side, maybe some certifications to keep you motivated and show you are serious and put them on LinkedIn to get hits, maybe work with some local small local businesses to help them.
Sounds like a lot of extra steps. Just LC and aim for entry - mid level positions
Unless you lie on your resume, nobody will give you a chance. You can't unwind your experience.
I heard some eng got electrocuted due to closeness with lightning 🌩
Don’t worry I’ll carry my lucky shirt.
