I heard in 2019 they were in a bad place due to layoffs. How are they now? Are they in the same general tier as other hft like hrt? If not how much worse are they for SWE ? Should someone from big tech go there if they currently don't have other offers (asking for a friend)?
The layoffs were due to a very specific business expansion attempt that sadly didn't pan out and after it became evident, was immediately stopped. There definitely were casualties for SWEs these were hired for this expansion. Wasn't related to trading directly so thankfully the trading teams are still as strong as they have been. Tbh while the trading is generally looking strong, I don't have a sense of how rewarded the SWEs are financially
what was it?
How can you tell which front office teams are good to join? My understanding is they operate independently and there is a wide range of quality/success, which impacts comp heavily
Mind a dm on questions about infra in quant finance space?
