Whats the true reason for RTO? Don’t tell me to prevent slacking cause let’s be real, you slack in the office too.
People have already told you the true reason thousands of times
???
Saving commercial real estate from a crash and bending to city councils because you grabbed a ton of tax benefits by promising footfall traffic and indirect jobs
And they lie to our faces
Millions invested in office space that no one is using.
Push from government authorities as its a direct impact to the state economy
Collaboration creates innovation. Thousands of years of human nature doesn't change with one small pandemic.
Why do we work in MS teams then even in office?
Imagine believing this management propaganda 😂
Look, I get that a lot of people value remote/wfh arrangements because it suits their lifestyle. Also it's easy to craft narratives around empty office space and micromanagers. ...but no one can convince me that it makes for a more productive workforce. Everything I used to be able to do with my team when we were all together in the office now takes weeks, if not months longer due to the slower, drawn out, and ineffective async nature of even the most basic of communication. Everyone has less time to produce because there has to be a meeting scheduled for everything that used to be a casual conversation by just walking over to someone's desk and having a quick chat. I'm not advocating for RTO, but I'm not going to pretend that fully remote hasn't hurt many companies in terms of the quality of their products and the speed in which they're produced
I don’t understand this comment? My coworkers are so ready for impromptu 5min calls. Don’t even have to walk to their desk.
Yeah, sounds like block has a problem with communication. Compared with pre COVID I have now much faster iterations and response from people Even day to day, having a vc is just 1 macro away then in 1-3min you are on a call. Where both sides join at their convenience, no need to distract by tapping their shoulder. The latter used to be a giant productivity killer
Control and domination, which is exactly why we need permanent WFH offered to all white collar employees. If you get a laptop, there is absolutely no reason why you need to come into the office when your work can be done at home. I will never return back to the office for as long as I’m working. TC: 105K
wtf is the issue though if they take multiple jobs and can perform well?

You get what you vote for
likely that cities gave companies tax breaks for workers coming into the office to stimulate cities and downtown economies
You’re right. This might be true
It’s not that simple. There is immense backchannel political pressure on companies to bring workers back, from the highest levels of power. The economic destruction of downtown cores is seen as something which will spiral and cause widespread economic damage. It’s not just the “hurr durr tax incentives hurr durr billionaires hurr durr CRE” like the loudest voices always complain. This is seen as an issue which could spark dangerous economic collapse and pressure is coming from everyone to prevent this. You aren’t seeing the levers moving behind the scenes.
