I'm a front end developer for IBM, I know that the role, responsibilities, team dynamics, etc. can vary dramatically from one company to the next. Some work with design, some are walled off and like it that way. Some companies separate their FEDs from engineers, other interstate them and call them UI engineers. That doesn't even begin to describe the complexity of the front end itself (these days at least). It seems like everything from visual styling and interactions to server side rendering, node servers, middleware, APIs and a lot more in between has become the responsibility of the front end developer. Anyway, forgive the less than articulate description above. I'm curious to know what other front end devs are doing. Here's a list of some things that could be helpful to others, feel free to add your own! • Skill level (junior, midlevel, senior, etc.) • Company (if you want) • Location • Official job title. • Job description vs what you actually do. • Team structure and dynamics. • overall opinion of the job. I won't ask for salary info, as far as I'm concerned that's still private. It's getting late here so I'll be posting mine in the morning.
