I have 2 years of web development experience. I think having github/medium article really helped me impress interviewers (e.g. interviewer read my medium article and we talked about it). Now that I have other hobbies - reading and playing instruments - I really don't have time/motivation to contribute to open source nor write a blog. At what point do you think having personal projects/github doesn't really matter? TC: 200k
Do personal project only if you like it don’t do it to impress others or for interviews. Nowadays it’s leetcode, people don’t care about side projects and that’s sad. I have a 800+ star pet project but no one gives a shit during interviews😢
I think it depends on a company? Amazon didn’t get a shit what I did but to ask leetcode but the startup people asked me why I wrote my medium article and went over github..
You are saying once you land a professional career you don’t really need to have GitHub or side projects? Or does it still matter for recruiters?
Yeah which is why the current interviewing system is messed up. LC monkeys everywhere.
I see....:(
