I assume unless the whole team is fired, managers are asked for names of employees who will be let go. Wondering is it above director decision on layoffs or just that managers know? #meta #twitter #netflix #google #apple #salesforce #amazon #aws
Layoff decisions usually happen on the director+ level. You won’t know this much earlier unless your org leaders are not competent.
Usually when things up there go radio silent
Different for different companies
The moment they see you
I’ve been on both ends. Usually never gets to a manager. Directors do sometimes know and I usually know the teams well enough that I won’t propagate it further down for a list. For large scale layoffs like the ones we are seeing, it’s usually above director.
Need to know basis … there was time when managers layedoff employees and within 2 days manager got layedoff and then director in Microsoft . I know people from all levels . All said they thought they were safe but by the time they knew it was too late .
Generally, the highest ranking budget owners will know exactly who. Managers aren't made aware until the very last minute, of whom within their teams are laid off, if not they themselves as the Manager. Ultimately, it's an orchestra of the Board, its executives, the balance sheet and the notes left by the third party risk assessors.
Depends, they might not know until a day or so before. Or if the director is also impacted they won't know until it happens
Really depends on upper Managment. Some get their subordinate managers involved and some companies don’t. It’s really up to each company.
I’ve seen and done it both ways. Obviously if you’re a manager or director who is gonna get canned you won’t know ahead of time. But sometimes a director will be asked to find a certain number of people to cut. They may consult with a manager on it but most likely they know the teams well enough to pick themselves.
