What happens when most of your team is Indian?
I currently have a 30-40 minute driving commute from SJ to Sunnyvale/Mountain View, I'm considering taking a new job in San Francisco. It would be Caltrain from Diridon to 4th St King, then a 20 minute walk from there. So it is at least 1 hr 30 minutes each way. I can already tell its going to be a drag, I used to live in Palo Alto and used to take the train from there to the Financial District and that was bearable, but monotonous. How much better does the money have to be to make this worth it? Or is it never worth the negative work life balance? The new job actually has upward mobility and is a step up in regards to responsibilities. Oh and I can't move to live closer.
Personally don’t think any TC is really worth a 3 hour daily commute
30-40mins is a superb time to ponder about day plans or revisit what you’ve done today. I usually take a good advantage of it. Enjoy the peaceful time man
So much pondering is going to happen and not enough time to do anything.
A little pondering is okay. 4 hours of pondering is too much
Just work on the train
Don't
Check if your new job has a shuttle bus service?
The long commute is NEVER WORTH IT
Not worth it in long term. Especially if you have a family
I can only see it being worth it if you WFH most days of the week and the TC can't be beat.
If shuttle almost door to door: not that bad. You sleep or work. Otherwise sounds horrible unless you need the money and no other option 🧐
Never. You will have to say bye bye to 4 hours a day.
