When should I sell my stock? Airbnb

I was laid off from Airbnb in 2020, and never sold any of my shares. Dumb decision? Highest Stock Price in 2021: $212 Stock price as of this morning: $112 😭😭😭😭😭 I need to learn how to sell immediately instead of HOLDING all the time I lost over $200K 😭😭😭😭😭 TC: $250,000

No one has a crystal ball but I Wish I had sold the moment mine vested

Of course you should of sold - Airbnbs are the price of hotels now with no amenities.

Chores are an amenity exclusive to Airbnb.

At this point wait until the market gets better. Why would you sell at a low point? If you immediately need the money now, I get that and it sucks, but otherwise just wait 2-3 yrs and it’ll be higher I feel

Google gHKL27 May 10, 2023

Market getting better != Airbnb getting better. OP can always sell and reinvest.

We’re in a recession, with mass layoffs and people are careful with their money, ie not a lot of traveling going on. I think Airbnb stock will go up in the future as traveling picks up once the economy recovers

Always sell on vest and diversify, Airbnb turning into value stock and not growth stock anymore. Plus you can’t compare with price when interest rates were practically 0, those days aren’t coming back.

Could be a lot worse. Pretty much any 2021 tech stock is at least 50% down and plenty are like 20% of their 2021 peak.

MGM Resorts <(‘_’)> May 10, 2023

Airbnb was a fad. They’re to expensive now. They’ll continue to lose market share as the market realizes this and shift back to proper hotels. Airbnbs went mainstream and greed f’d it all up. Sell now, it’s not going to get better.

Airbnb zxfgeyue May 10, 2023

Where are you reading that Airbnb is losing market share? They grew 18% yoy

MGM Resorts <(‘_’)> May 10, 2023

So VRBO isn’t taking market from them? https://www.businessofbusiness.com/amp/articles/vrbo-airbnb-google-data/

So in general you want to unload stocks in your company as they vest - you’ve already got a lot invested in the success of your employer and probably unvested shares as well. But that ship has sailed. For now I’d still say sell, or sell majority. I won’t comment on what I think the future if AirBnb will be but ask yourself this - if you had that money in cash vs. stock today, would you use all of it to buy AirBnb stock? If not then you have no logical reason to hold it.

I’d sell some now and risk the rest with the hope that it will go up someday

You lose or win only when you sell, that’s not your case yet
