TC $80k 1.5 YOE
For 4-6 weeks, I cycled through multiple projects. Each one being dropped for the next without being completed all because some exec changed his "vision" randomly. All the PMs were scared of losing their job so quickly scrambled to please the C suite which ended up fucking the engineers morale. Then... Our second round of layoffs happened and every single engineer on my team was laid off besides me. There was one eng left (me) and one PM left. We obviously both stopped working and spent the next few weeks supporting each other's job search and actually became friends as a result lol. This is from my last couple months at TripAdvisor. I start at FB on Monday. Good riddance.
Hell yeah, welcome to Facebook
Didn't management try to assign you a different team after the layoffs?
Last at AWS, launched a public service and wasn't expecting similar learning/experience for a while. Jumped
Yellow/Gold badge 8+ year Amazonian here. Team had high level reorg, new crop of leaders were highly political and cronies started thriving. Normally when this happened at Amazon, I used to switch teams. This time I decided I was tired of doing the same song and dance every year or two, so decided to start looking outside. Quitting once h1b premium gets filed.
Quitting before you have another job?
No. Got another job h1b filled. Converting to premium on June 8, and after approval I will give notice
Was at a highly political b2b startup full of <2 YOE arrogant engineers and a complex product that was constantly on fire. Morale was low on the engineering side and experienced bad burnout. Took 1 month of interviewing to leave that environment.
Was bored working in our tech stack, mainly because VP wasn’t keen on letting us move to a newer framework (we’ve been stuck in backbone for the last 7 years). We’ve also had layoffs. I took 2 weeks off to prepare for interviews.
Thanks for the idea. Thinking to do the same
HR misrepresented the position I had applied for. When I raised my concerns that the job wasn't technical enough they told me there was nothing they could do so I wasn't about to waste my time working for a place that cared so little about me
This sucks. Happened to me once too - I quit after three days, but they wanted me to work my full notice period. 🤣
Was promised a promotion that dragged on and on. Also was tasked to take on additional accounts without any increase in compensation. Was supposed to be short term and went on for the better part of a year.
1st Manager brow beat me in 1:1s the entire first 3 months I was there. Huge asshole. I ended up with a new Manager who was less of an asshole for the next 6 months. Members of my team still sucked, so I looked at switching teams. I ended up moving to a new team. The Manager on it had helped me get hired. I finally thought I was gonna be on a team with a competent Manager. One of our first 1:1s I got brow beaten for almost the whole hour over some work I did. Things did get better, but I was done. I didn't want any shit Managers anymore.
