According to this article, you used to be able to make more than 1MM in a sales role at IBM: "One manager, Tom Batthany, wrote an email protesting IBM capping the commissions of a sales representatives he managed, where he says: 'We can no longer have folks stand in the front of the room and say reps make $1 million and there are no caps.'" https://www.theregister.com/2020/08/20/ibm_commission_lawsuit/ #1MM #million #IBM #sales #nocap #quota #lawsuit
I guarantee the guy that made that was worth at least 3mm
made me lol
It's hard to sell ibm products. Those people deserve their millions in commission.
facts
😂 🙏
Wait until the digital sales take over...
Sales people were the only thing IBM had, now its gone as well RIP
Where can't you make more than at IBM?
Can confirm, have a friend who used to be in software sales. She left several years ago when the commission caps were put in place.
Sales should never have CAPs.. Has to be more to this. Every component of a business is important, especially back end (engineers) but without sales their is business.. You should get paid for what you put in.. I can agree here but also never made a Million.. I would however propose a different compensation. Where sales, engineers (people involved with product) get a commission split. Even if it’s 90/10 or 5% I’d rather give that 5-10% to the people working on the backend who don’t get facetime but are making it all happen. Not only does everyone win and earns more, but creates synergy amongst teams to work together and support each other for a good environment. Not in tech sales, but that’s how I would structure it.
In a roundabout way that’s what equity grants do
Yea not in tech sales but that’s how I would structure it. We all eat. Enough money for everyone. = success
There’s plenty of reps in each big SaaS company making millions each year.
Also sales is a much more sexy job - you get to travel business class all the time, nice hotels and restaurants, etc.
allegedly this lifestyle gets old real quick
Depends on the company and team, usually people travel economy at MS

What do you think is wrong with a kid who got rejected by 9 colleges?
$1mm? Why did I even bother going to college....
You typically would need a Business Degree, then start in sales as a SDR, and eventually, maybe make your way up where you can sign bigger deals and make good money.
This isn’t door to door sales. These jobs are very competitive to get, you need at least a bachelors, and sales is extremely challenging and stressful. Most people can’t hack it.
