I’m a senior graduating in May with a B.S in CS. I have a standing offer from Verizon where I’ve interned past 2 years doing AI & data science engineering. Offer is for a Verizon Leadership Development Rotational Program. Pay is not great. Base: $84k Signing Bonus: $5k Annual Bonus: ~10% ~$10k RSUs (3 year vesting) What are some target employers for college hires? I’ve shot my shot at FANG with little luck in even getting interviews despite having referrals for all of them. Im debating shooting some applications to Amazon 😬 just to have another option. I’m not super thrilled with the offer rn but have nothing else at the moment… are my first job salary expectations too high? Am I just applying to too competitive places? Opinions welcome
That is normal pay for VeriZon. I am surprised they even give RSU’s. If you apply at Amazon you are almost guaranteed to get an interview. Cracking the interview is upto you. You will make more in joining bonus than your total base salary.
^agreed
What location is this ? My new grad offer in 2007 was about this number at a tier-2 company in Bay Area. There are many companies between Verizon TC and FAANG TC - why don’t you target those ?
The location is New Jersey but it’s a rotational program so I could end up anywhere in the country for first 3 years, relocation is covered. Can you give examples of some “between” companies?
These rotational programs are great only if you want to have a long term management career in Verizon. Else big tech is where the money is.
Go for Amazon. You will learn alot
Thank you! I appreciate that
Agreed but no harm in trying. :) OP is not even applying to Amazon which I consider a missed opportunity. I worked at accenture right out of college worked there for 2 years (recently left). My tc was 82k. My husband also worked at Verizon right out of college. We are doing fine.
95% people make less than that as their starting salary. Blind is not reflective of the real world. Most people here work for FAANG+ and therefore make a lot more, but a lot of them started at smaller or non-tech companies too
Yea if you're MCOL area this is a decent offer.
there is a middle ground between FANG and old school corporates like Verizon. unicorns, small/medium startups, banks, almost anywhere that does software engineering will be able to beat that salary for a new grad.
DM for referral to AWS
Imagine turning up your nose at Amazon. It’s still a fantastic company
Don't join Amazon, come on so many people have it bad there why would it be any different this time?

Amazon is a good one to start cause we hire a ton of SDE1. Any big software company will pay you $140k+
Can I pm you some questions?
