Where to pivot to after Customer Success manager? Aka burned out

My gf works as a customer success manager and it seems like it’s everyday she has to fall on the sword for some mistake made by someone else (sometimes before she even joined the company) and get shit on by the customer. If that wasn’t bad enough her bonus is tied to the customer’s rating of her, which obviously 99% is more rating by the customer of how they perceive the company not her actual performance. She has great understanding of the product and ideas for developing the product but no product Manager experience. Any idea where she could pivot to or how she could break into another role?#customersuccess #productmanager TC:275

That’s part of being a CSM- falling on the sword. Most CSMs pivot to sales that I’ve noticed

This - sales pays better, you can promise the sun, moon and stars, and let product deal with it after the deal is signed. By then, take the commission and jump to a competitor. Pivot to an adjacent industry if bored. Profit !

I doubt a csm could transition to a pm. But maybe if she goes a different route. Go into a support experience role like manager of customer experience or program manager. Those people have to interact with product to understand how new products, features impact the customer experience. From there, learn as much from pm's and get into a product operations role. Then from there it would be more likely to transition to a pm. We have people at Uber that do this.

That's what a CSM does too

Solutions Consultant / Solutions Architect may be an option depending on the level of tech ability she has and her willingness to engage with prospects in a pre-sales capacity. Compensation is typically much better too.
