Hi, I will be moving to bay area to start my SDE career at Apple HQ in the summer. I personally really like living in urban areas, like SF, that are walkable, less car dependent, and with a decent night life/art scene. But seems taking the shuttle to Apple HQ from SF can take 1-2 hrs. (I would never want to drive if I live that far from work so it has to be either shuttles or caltrain/public transportation) I would really appreciate it to hear your thoughts on: - Alternatives to SF to live in - Is living in SF and commuting to cupertino worth the long commute on shuttle? Thank you :) #apple #applecareer #bayarea #housing #sanfrancisco
Ur gonna have a rough time if u don’t get a car. Also sf + man Jose night life is trash. RIP.
I meant relative to Bay Area. I bet it’s still better than Cupertino 😂
Sf > man jose, but ya if apple has shuttles and you get Instacart u should be good
San Jose is your best bet if you want a reasonable commute and urban life. You may also want to consider downtown Santa Cruz. A bit further away but nice if you're looking for a hippie/surfer vibe and lots of young (albeit typically less educated) people
I lived in SF for almost 3 years commuting to Cupertino and then moved to <1 mile from Apple Park to commute by bike. I never had any free time on weekdays to do anything in SF, so I eventually decided a short commute was more important and I could go to the city on the weekends. The Peninsula is boring to live in, but a short commute cannot be overstated, especially if you’re in a team with bad WLB.

Real talk: in what way private schools are better than public in nyc?
SF is overrated. Not worth even the shuttle commute.
How so? Can you elaborate please?
The city is a mess in terms of homelessness. Furthermore, the people that are there are all hipsters, tech/consulting bros (and the female analogues) and overall they are just memes who have drunk the koolaid and are pretty boring people who think they are interesting. At least the people in South Bay know they are boring and are generally older so they are more or less done with trying to show off. Plus there is good hiking and biking in the hills to the south, and you can get newer and larger places for the same price than what you’d get in San Fransisco.
