All big techs have mean streaks, sometimes unintended consequences. My employer will score high for obvious reasons. AirBnB made cities more unaffordable for middle class, Uber squeezes drivers with below minimum wage, Microsoft used to be the big satan taking that over from IBM, Apple and Samsung sue competitors over rectangle shaped screens …
We gonna win this one 😒
Did you forget onlyfans?
Google needs to be further up
Lol what did Google do
@Google YouTube
I voted Meta and Amazon. Meta for obvious reasons and Amazon because all that stands between Amazon and the largest monopoly the world’s ever seen is…Walmart and the CCP/Alibaba.
I mean if you thought Walmart was a terrible employer for hallowing out entire towns, Amazon Warehouses are like a dystopian nightmare.
They all suck but Palantir sucks the most. Primarily serving government (US Army, ICE, law enforcement) and enabling them to be more exploitative than ever.
What kind of stuff specifically?
The only people who benefit from monopolistic/oligopolistic “scalable tech solutions” in the long run are us! tech employees and shareholders tbh! they make society more and more miserable over the long run in one way or another!
A lot of people don't realize how scalable palantir's evil is.
At least their stock price is in the gutter again
Uber has a great positive impact. It's enabling thousands of drivers to earn their livelihood. And also reducing private car ownership by giving riders a smooth and effortless experience.
Google + social media companies. Accessibility of information caused higher rates of technological innovation, which in turn replaced millions of jobs, eliminating income of many thousands of families and causing a huge amount of suffering worldwide. Not even going to mention all the political movements it enabled that resulted in violent conflicts.
So we should not be happy people get smarter, more educated, and less work needs to be done? We should be happy to have to walk instead of fly and go hunt instead of buy neat at the store? So that 10000 year old jobs continue as they were in cave age? Ok, sure! Google and social are evil because they suppress certain information and opinions, not for sharing info.
I actually think it is way overblown. Most of the bad things Meta had were side effects and unforeseen accidents. People use our platforms in creative evil ways we didn’t foresee. Nothing compared to what Uber does at its core, giving people non-liveable wages. We don’t squeeze employees like Amazon does, we pay taxes. We are happy to compete, not going to court fir everything apple does. We don’t want to crush competition like Microsoft once does.
The societal impact of us is still not well understood. The shallow good and bad are known but the deep negative psychological impact is not understood.
