Gone through 10 tech companies, msft, Amazon, meta, and Dropbox, and bunch of other tier 1 /2 tech companies. So far, Meta has the best tooling and easiest dev onboarding experience among all - VM sandbox integrated with vscode (selection, debugging, and great UI to drag and drop diffs), mono-repo, and support for stacked diff!!! Many places that I worked at, doesn’t offer the support for stacked diff, but once u get use to it, damn, it is life changing, no need to track all ur branches between features and keep merging them when u make a one line change. Why don’t GitHub support this? Which company do u think has the best tooling? TC 300 YOE 5
In what ways?
That doesn’t help with us in understanding how is it better, most of us are not familiar with artists or Cisco products
Can you elaborate going through 10 tech companies with 5 yoe?
Internships
If Google has the best tooling I'm def not going to any of the others lol. A startup is easier to onboard into imo
Nah startup is often harder, sometime they don’t even have Vm nor pipeline, will just be running straight on ur laptop
Your laptop as production
At google, there's a lot of black magic that goes on behind the scenes, so dev tools either work seamlessly or not at all, and there's no in-between. Developing services was waaaay easier at amazon using NAWS, though.
Do you enjoy Google or you miss Amazon for work and pace?
I really like it at google. The work isn't as exciting, but the wlb is substantially better. Slow pace is nice if you wanna just live your life and not really care about work
So how is the tooling at Dropbox then?
Average, typical tech company setup with little to no integration to IDE and other tools
YOE 5 and 10 companies. You need help
I think I made all the right choices, after all internships can’t be counted in YOE
Have only worked at Google and Meta in FAANG, and personally it's Google > Meta. Both are really good though.
Haha I think I know you based on your history ;)
I think I know who u are based on ur username lol
