I have 2 kids so wlb is kinda important to me. By wlb, I mean if I can get things done in 35-40hrs a week, that’s good for me. Msft: Non Azure org in MS. Pros: - Potentially good wlb - No layoff stress I guess - Good stock performance Cons: - slow/no growth - bad refreshers - Work on proprietary stuff Meta: RL team Pros: - Good refreshers - potentially good growth Cons: - PSC stress and impacc chasing - Layoff/pip stress - Stock ATH - potentially work on proprietary stuff Msft tried to come close to Meta’s year 1 TC with a sign-on but from year 2, there will be a big diff in TC due to better refreshers at Meta. Why would there not be layoff stress at Microsoft? We do layoffs every quarter and bigger ones at least once a year.
So you are saying that Microsoft also has a pip like thing now?
No pip but layoff yes
Op how would you rate the interview for Meta? Was system design difficult? Don’t go to Microsoft at 64. Push for 65 at least.
No, it was as expected. Leetcode questions for coding. System design was not that tough as well. You’re saying this coz, 64 to 65 internally is going to take a long time?
Yeah. I used to work at Microsoft. Any promo which is a title change needs luck and the right projects.
Meta has a performance driven culture, and the team cultures vary a lot. It's basically a lottery if you'll get good WLB.
Low for an E5 at Meta
Agree, but don’t have a competing offer back then so couldn’t negotiate much. They have been low balling people without competing offers
DM me, OP
Definitely Microsoft
Can you elaborate why?
Life at meta is full of darkness and terrors.
Take Meta. If you don’t like it within 6-9months, use the new comp to find a different job at a higher TC. That will give you a year to year and half there, which is decent. If you can get into Meta and MS from eBay you were up to something good in the past and you can surely find something better with Meta in your resume in future.
If you want to work sane hours, you must not choose Meta. But Microsoft shall not gaureentee you that.
Are you at Meta rn? If yes, can you share your experience?
Was working. It's extremely team dependent, but most teams have insane expectations
