I have a slightly different question. Imaging someone at Intel with Grade 5 having the same salary as Grade 6. So, which one is better the one who is on Grade 5 while still getting paid same as Grade 6 or the one with Grade 6? Same applies for other companies as well. Inputs appreciated. Thanks
Grade 6. Remember, real employment at Intel starts at Grade 7, so you want to get there asap. No RSU before 7, and bonuses are much smaller. Also, your question makes no sense. For the same pay, of course you want to be at the higher level assuming you can do the work.
Unless you have to work more at the higher level and you have no career aspirations.
From what I recall, the differences between 5 and 6 were minimal. Even 7. They are all effectively entry positions.
How would imaging that person help?
Well if your promoted you’d go from 5 to 6 or 6 to 7... different stock system at G7 as well as higher employee bonus percentage. Would rather be G6
I think will it be harder to get promoted on Grade 6 considering I will be only in the first quartile in the pay range?
Not necessarily. Mostly a waiting game at Intel - not a merit game. Maybe only merit once you’ve waited your turn in line 3-4 years.
