Amazon used to be easy to team switch, and international moves were the norm. Nowadays, you're expected to do a half or full loop to interview internally, making moves difficult. Almost all roles do not support international moves, and many of those that do will favour domestic candidates, primarily external as laid-off folks can usually join immediately instead of waiting 30 days to join from another team. If you are looking to leave India, definitely don't choose Amazon. I'm in the UK, and I've found it impossible to move even domestically. I also lost a role for a sister team in the US, because they could bring in an external candidate faster. They chose someone with a decade less experience over someone that literally built the service they've built their goals around.
My only motivation to join amazon is I would get opportunity to move outside if performed good for a year. My team also has a sister team in the US. Micromanagement is there in the team and I am expected to come to office 3 days a week with no compromise. Office politics is the real. A lot will depend upon my manager. Considering these factors is it worth it to join and keep hoping that they would send me to the US one day?
Amazon is doing its best to get people to leave. International moves are extremely rare, even if you're a top performer. I've been here almost five years, and have tried to move internationally for the last 3, with no luck. I genuinely don't think that international moves will become commonplace again, so if you want to move I would say try anywhere else. You might be lucky, but even if you were lucky enough to speak to a HM that wants you, you'd still have to go through coding, system design, and LP rounds - and in that time they might just take an external candidate that a recruiter has waiting.
