I have a senior data scientist offer from Walmart (total comp ~$200K), Bloomberg (~$160K), and am going through final rounds for a BIE role at Amazon. 1) which offer would you take? 2) should I even go through the BIE interviews? Not sure if BIE is a useful role if I want to pursue a data science career path#datascience
Go through and get an offer from Amazon. Then see if it is worth the risk
I’m just not sure if BIE at Amazon is very Analyst heavy work or has some DS work as well. It took me a while to move over from an analyst to data scientist and I don’t want to feel like I’m back tracking
Very true. The TC will likely be silly high, but I get it.
Yoe?
I have 4.5 years of experience but 2 years as a data scientist
Congrats on the offers OP! What was your role before becoming a DS and what’s been the most useful things you did to go into DS?
BIE is a different job than DS. As a DS I wouldn’t like being a BIE
That’s what I was thinking too.. wondering if I should even go through with the interviews
This isn’t true not sure why this is being upvoted Amazon BIE can often be product analytics type roles, and many DS are product analytics. If it’s DS ML then he’s
What is the location for Walmart and Bloomberg offers?
NYC for both
Location?
OP said NYC
Bloomberg is recession proof
Omg it’s nice to hear good news like this in this economy. Congrats for getting these offers.

Bloomberg you will have a much better quality of life. See if you can upsize the position at Bloomberg, maybe it's a lower rated role. I have never known Walmart to be anything other than cheap so could be a difference in job roles and responsibilities. I would work very hard towards Bloomberg.

In the economy, Bloomberg is probably a good bet if you need a visa because they haven't had layoffs in forever. If not, go with a higher comp.
This is false. Bloomberg does PIP and some of their teams are really bad. Hmu if you want to know which teams to avoid
At Bloomberg now, I have never heard of one PIP, I actually really like it here. I would recommend the Bloomberg offer, perhaps there are a few nightmare teams that ByteDance has seen but I’d imagine that’s few and far in between.
