I absolutely hate YouTube. They introduced double the ads and at both beginning and end. Disgusting non skippable ads. The more brands hound me on YouTube, the more I will never buy from that (take that Grammarly and Coinbase). YouTube’s CEO got away by completely pissing off customers without any accountability. Unfortunately, there is absolutely no alternative to YouTube.
WhatsApp, stuck due to network effects, trying to move to Signal slowly.
I've stopped YouTube app on my phone for that reason! AdBlock on Mac 😄
ESPN app. For every 30sec video, there is usually two 15sec ads
Just use Brave instead, or if you are lazy install an Adblocker in chrome
Unfortunately I already ditched the first 3 options you listed. Back in 90s for all the info I had to only rely on the textual information… Websites with images were a waste of money and time for me as a customer… I had a terrible 56 Kbps connection with practical downlink speeds at 16kbps… So I got good at scanning text to find relevant info… Enter better times, you tube started offering quick videos, I had decent internet, so my info seeking methods switched to videos… Then came the monetization, and suddenly everyone was fluffing their videos to hit the 10 min mark…. Finding relevant info in a video is still a shitty experience. On top of that ads in beginning, middle and everywhere turned me off… by that time I was already using YouTube to let the auto play surprise me… and soon I realized I can do without that kind of wastage of time… Info seeking shifted back to text based but now every one wants to present a video… it’s become a bit difficult to find the info but I am getting by on the text based websites… Ditched using Facebook when they started adding ads after every 5 posts… now they are doing after every 3 posts on your feed. I spend considerable time minimalizing my profile to remove as much targeting as possible but it’s a company against a individual… then there was a time when I used to dedicatedly report every ad so that it don’t show up.. I mean if you can’t block the ads block the advertiser. But by then FB for me had become more of a tool to quickly get to know if anyone had a significant life event .. I put FB in read only mode… with a quick scan of feed… that’s all. I am very new to insta but blocking the advertiser still works. Also I use insta in read only mode as well . I hate all 3 of them. You can also include the google ecosystem as such. Amazon, I have no qualms about. I am very happy for the shopping exp with the 140/- prime fees. The key for me is to not let any of these apps generate notifications on my phone.. if I want something from them I open that app at my choice of time and convenience. So far it’s working.
I like your username, I remember using notepad++ for little C and C++ programs back when programming was just a hobby for me
What ads? I pay to stop those.
