Whirlpool wasn't some highly leveraged ZIRP era tech industry beneficiary -- the demand for household appliances shouldn't have shot up during Covid necessitating an over-hiring boom in that sector. Or am I missing something here? They are blaming the lack of movement in the real estate sector, I guess. If durable goods manufacturers like them are cutting headcount then that says something about the techcession spreading to other parts of the economy.
I remember learning about this in my Finance class. Large appliances sales are a leading indicator for consumer confidence. Consumers don't make big purchases like a new fridge or washer dryer if they are feeling financially insecure. 2025 recession confirmed.
"Leading indicators" have predicted the last 50 out of 3 recessions.
