The end of Backdoor Roth?!
Just watched the Chelsea Handler special on Netflix. Interesting. Is white privilege real? If you think so, why? If not, why?
Watch if you disagree: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=kyl4EJhq47A
Ok I would have two only 2 steps and I’m W
Ok so here is the publication that brought white privilege to public attention. The paper really opened my mind to things that white films take for granted. Answer is, white privilege is very real. https://psychology.umbc.edu/files/2016/10/White-Privilege_McIntosh-1989.pdf
A lot of white privilege is just majority privilege. Majorities in every country/community enjoy the privilege of defining the status quo.
White privilege exists but its overrated. It's a 5point curve on a 100point exam. Class matters more than race. Lots of poor miserable white people exist, and lots of rich successful minorities exist.
Absolutely. White male privilege is very real too
Don’t forget straight!
Don’t forget cisgendered!! Consider yourself lucky to believe you are the same sex that your genitals classify you as!
It's really a wealth privilege, not white privilege. Kids of Chinese and Indian immigrants working in tech are the most privileged by that definition.
This. Nobody gives a shit about poor white people.
While you’re not wrong, it’s good to recognize that privilege does not automatically mean wealth or status. It can be something as “simple” as not having a qualifier attached to you. For example if someone is white and live in the US they are American, literally everyone else gets a hyphenated qualifier. This can easily make people feel like they are less than as if being white is the standard and anything else needs to be accepted or tolerated. This does not mean that white people are doing anything bad or any individual should feel guilty, but it’s just a simple fact of reality at the moment. Another example is in the workplace. Many white people don’t really have any concept of how intensely awkward it can be to be the only person of a race in an office setting. It can be extremely isolating to be the only one or to be one of a handful because then that person is often looked at as a proxy for their entire race instead of as an individual. Again none of this means anyone is waving their privilege around maliciously, it’s just something that we tend not to notice because we’ve never had to so it’s easy to say it doesn’t exist or that some group of minority is more privileged than poor whites or anyone else. To be fair everyone has some sort of privilege based on their race, social groups, gender, etc. but being an outlier ( minority that happens to be doing well financially ) does not mean other privileges not afforded to you because you aren’t white just go away.
That Chelsea Handler special was really good, must-watch. Just like the Wanda Sykes comedy on Netflix too.
Blacks get attention for a reason. 50% of crime in the country committed by 13% of population.
It’s racist to commit crime.
What even is “white”?
A very well maintained social position started based on complete nonsense and near unimaginable human suffering. Not a bash against white folks, none of us chose our race, it just helps to look at it for what it is sometimes.
I haven't watched the show but if you don't think it exists (speaking from an American standpoint) you're ignoring hundreds of years of history. Yes it's changing but change is slow, and were not all that old as a country. It will be awhile longer before it's a non-issue. All these old entitled white racists boomers will eventually die out, that will help.
The only color that has privilege is green.
Stop it
White privilege is when you “own” something to anyone who is not white.
“White privilege is when you “own” something to anyone who is not white.” 🤔 are u talking about slavery?
