Has anyone done a whiteboard challenge over Zoom yet? I think I can use Figma Any advice on: - Any challenges over doing it via Zoom I should be aware of? - How you structured your time? - How you set up your file? - Or how the process went overall?
Yes. And also fuck reading all the product design books, I did and it was a waste of time. If you recite shit from those and structure your way of thinking based on them you will blend in with every other candidate. Just have empathy for the user in whatever hypothetical situation you’re solving for, consider social and economic factors when thinking through the business problem and be yourself. Structure doesn’t matter, everyone has their own process, show them yours or just take notes on what’s being said.
Thanks for this That’s a good reminder to make considerations for social and economic factors
I don’t think it’s a waste of time if you just want to know how other people approach it. Yes everyone has their own way, but it helps if you haven’t done many or any before. It was a valuable part of the research that I did, coming from places where I didn’t have solid mentors and didn’t feel like I had practiced whiteboard enough in the real world.

Read solving product design exercises, google/YouTube some examples of how others structure the exercise, there are a few different frameworks around that you could use or at least reference for practice. You should definitely practice as much as you can. Figma is fine, I’ve used Miro, but depending on the company they might already have a challenge set up in an existing figma/freehand or whatever file.
