Who here has relocated from Bay Area to Seattle recently?

Any stories to tell of our transition?

Microsoft Cacadoodoo Jan 7, 2019

Hated everything about it. Huge mistake. Relocation was a disaster, rentals were shit, new job was a total disappointment.

I second this

Microsoft Nhub$7@4/ Jan 7, 2019

@Cacadoo where were you before?

SAP grooot Jan 7, 2019

worst

Why would you do this?

Amazon lolwhat Jan 7, 2019

Seattle has all the bad things about the Bay Area and none of the good things.

Care to expound on this?

Microsoft Cacadoodoo Jan 7, 2019

Right? Totally agree. Except for the taxes

Relocated 3 months ago. I ended up liking it more than I expected. I do miss sun and warmth here and there, and sunsetting by 3:30-4pm is depressing, but overall I enjoy living by lakeside, Pacific Northwest landscape, nice people, fresh seafood, tons of local apple cider, and having a lot of outdoor sport options (I have never been an outdoor person in my entire life!). Finally started to settle down, so the next goal is to understand seasonal produces and cooking in PNW. Also investing in quality winter clothes. Trying to find good restaurants for dishes I enjoy. This relocation was to seek a major life change, and I am trying to make most of it by trying things I have never done in California. I mean, living within an hour drive range to the nearest ski resort and 2.5 hour drive to Vancouver/Portland? That is pretty cool to me :-) Two major downsides (personally) are the increased cost (both time & money) to warm vacation spots, and Sea-Tac air traffic congestion. CA to Cabo was so quick before, not anymore ;_; instead I got the shorter air travel to East Asia and the Alaska cruise. I hope I will get to see Aurora Borelis in northern Canada at some point. Disclaimer: I do fly down to CA at least once a month so I guess I do get extra sun. Round trip costs more $ though :(

what kind of ingredients are you considering local? curious since I’m also trying to get into cooking 😅

Facebook WDWO10 Jan 7, 2019

Geoduck! Haha just kidding. I don't think I would practice my knife skills with shellfish that is not oyster ;) Nothing special in terms of "local". More interested in cooking what it in season! For instance, now is a good time for crabs. Salmon for the summer, and as a big Maui onion fan, I want to experiment with local Walla Walla onions :D

Moved year back and it is not a good idea. Missed sun, Indian food and overall fun. Want to go back

Roku Mixi OP Jan 7, 2019

Overall fun? What does that mean? I dislike Indian food so I think I’m good there.

moved here as a new grad from the bay area and it’s been interesting. for the most part everyone ive met seems to be treating seattle as a stopover or a transition period and dont tend to stay long 😭

Roku Mixi OP Jan 8, 2019

Stop over to where ?

Amazon Amznnn Jan 8, 2019

Agree with this ^. Seems like everyone moving to Seattle is doing it as a step in their career, but don’t plan on staying here for the long run. Everyone wants to do their time here and move back to the bay, tx or east coast.
