Who's succeeded getting at FAANG in the US without being in the US?

Is it worth even trying to apply if I'm overseas and only have B1/B2 visa? Or recruiters pretty much just ignore these applications? Any hints on how to get at FAANG in the US for the first time? TC 142k YOE 12

Nope. The chances are very less to get direct H1B.

Interested as well but not just for FAANG - any smaller companies open to sponsor?

If you're from Canada, Mexico, Australia, Chile or Singapore (and have citizenship), the US has a free trade agreement that allows citizens from that country to get non immigration intent visas (TN1, E3 and H1B1). Whenever you're applying, emphasise the easy visa and compare it to TN1 for the other visas, or get a referral to give the interview.

Many companies won’t do this cause visas are based on a lottery draw. I think the safest path is FAANG in some other company then transfer internally after a year to US. This uses a different visa type.
