Can someone please explain to me why Dropbox has 500K users and 1B annual run rate? What do they do that Microsoft, Google, Box, Salesforce don't offer? Is it still a great place to work?
Simple, easy to understand use cases and value proposition,, coupled with consumer friendly ui
Have a friend who works there and we constantly take jabs at each other. Overall, ok place to work. Not terribly better or worse than the avg shop
So would you rather work at dropbox?
No
I simply don't get it. I think they're delusional. They're not even profitable after 10 years in business. They're now praying to get there and IPO by catering to enterprise. Something that Box did ages ago, more successfully. By all accounts Dropbox seems to be doing decently acquiring enterprise customers but I don't see how it's a sustainable model.
They are profitable now
No they're not. They're cash flow positive.
Simple: It magically works. — it is the same proposition since the first day: A magic pocket. — If you follow their tech blog, and their fluent/velocity/aws-summit etc talks, you’ll see that there is a lot smarts going on to make it “seem” magical.
