I am seeing a dangerous trend that Indian female engineers are trying to excessively push for career growth and ready to sacrifice family and health over career growth. I know very closely an engineer (I mentor) in Amazon with spouse in Snowflake. She had a complex pregnancy but she continued to push work (and promotion) that made her health really bad after the baby. I suggested many times to take extended leave and focus on health. Her husband supported her extensively and exhausted regular leaves. She eventually got PIPed from Amazon. And her Husband also heard recently that he will get PIPed from Snowflake. This is not an isolated incident, I am seeing similar trends in my women Network. I think some of the women are not realizing that career is not a race but a Sprint. I took a 3 year career break with my kids health issues (after my pregnancy) and I was able to rejoin industry and grow to a good position. It's OK if I didn't grew to a Director/VP, but a Sr. Manager position is great for me. Please remember that even if you have a good manager, they can only accommodate and stretch to a limit. It is much better to take a break and focus on health so that you can come back to the team/company than being PIPed and blacklisted from the company forever.
Likely because of visa. Getting promoted gives a sense of job security
That is bs. Visa doesn’t need a title it just needs a consistent job. in fact it is much more easier to maintain the job as senior software engineer than a director.
This is a trend for all people in America now unfortunately. Two people gotta grind to achieve the "American dream". A single income household isn't enuf. Shit used to not be like this, when America was a much greater nation. My grandfather came from India in 1968 to be a principal civil engineer here and never made more than 200k a year. My grandmother never worked (his wife), yet he has able to buy a 3.4k square foot house in Irvine, CA (now worth 3.6 million), two vacation homes in SoCal (worth a combined 3.1 million), have 4 kids and put them all through private Ivy-level colleges in the late 80s/early 90s (now an Ivy league school costs 400k per kid), and accumulate a liquid net worth of 6 million (stocks were so low in the 70s, 80s, 90s). Oh he also has a pension from his old employer 😂. Now, even a FAANG director/senior director would struggle to do all this lmao. Welcome to the new America, where the dream is dying...
I mean as long as Indian men keep setting the bar as they do right now, you can’t blame them.
Are you Indian?
Yes, I am.
And a sexiest male too. Either skinny fat or chubby fat with no personality beside just being an engineer.
Story doesn't add up. If she was focusing on career so much, how come got piped? Did her health get so bad and she still did not take FMLA? I am a similar person so curious. I managed through though health is okie career is fine and baby is fine too
my reason: Just want to have job satisfaction but had to keep my job cause we both are dependent on my visa.
There were multiple similar stories where people were PIPed when they thought that Manager is working on Promotion.
How is it your business? Women have every right to earn as much money as men. Also, it says a lot about the partner. People happily give up their dreams to start a family with the right partner. If she didn’t, maybe the idea of starting a family didn’t entice her enough. Her life, her business/
I’m trying and failing to think of anyone I know, of any gender, who has ‘happily given up their dreams’. Do know plenty of people in their 50s and 60s with long simmering resentments towards their spouses though!
Maybe that’s just your circle
This is Rajesh and Rajeshwari mentality. Work is God 🙏
$ is God in their mentality.
wut? Are you saying non-Indians don’t care about hard work and dollars? 😂
It’s none of your business! Typical Indian Auntie! Let them live their life
Taking a career-break is frowned among the latest generations of Indian, you don't see this in American and European people. In Europe, it is really common to see as the job guarantees are really high.
eBay who hurt you?
Women cannot depend on men. So it looks like some of them would rather die than depend on a man.
Here we go again 🥱
