Every famous products have some competitors. Even Bing didn't created product similar to youtube. Why? Why don't Twitch, TikTok, FB don't create similar products to compete with YT? TC: 250k (not at RedHat)
I guess Google search is biased towards YouTube...
Nobody wants to be a competitor… they want their own thing. Each of these platforms will steal bits and ideas from each other. Like IG/Snapchat stories, YT Shorts/ TikTok, but nobody wants to create direct competitors in a saturated space
Why don't TikTok YT/ YouTube. Like main product is tiktok and steal bits is YT
Yeah, i also think there should be competitor
It's not the product itself that's hard to beat, it's the catalog. Good luck finding 1 billion or so videos to host. Not to mention it would be prohibitively expensive to host that many videos without owning the cloud that it sits on. Not worth the effort. TikTok is able to compete in this space, but mainly because of the short content format of the videos, the strength of their suggestion algorithm, and how lucrative the ad profiles that their algorithms create are
Vimeo? Fb? TikTok?
The answer is that Twitch, TikTok and FB all have products that compete with YouTube. YouTube does horizontal & vertical (TikTok style) videos, which makes them a competitor to TikTok & IG Reels. FB has FB watch, which competes with YouTube. Plus FB reels competes with YouTube shorts. Twitch has livestream rebroadcasts, many of which end up on YouTube. No vertical video though (AFAIK?).
The truth is that all those competitors aren’t really in danger of putting YouTube out of business. I think it’s because of what @google said above - the hard part is building the videos & community behind YouTube. That’s what takes a decade of losing money.
Yeah, I don't think YT afraid any of the products you mentioned. Their main product (horizontal) don't have a real competitor.
Have you seen YouTube shorts? Literally ig reel and tiktok competitor
But YT copied it. I am talking (vice versa) about their main core feature.
Their is no competitors for long videos by Individual people
Short answer is they do. Long answer is that youtube isn't a profitable business so beyond the network effect there is less reason to invest.
YouTube isnt a profitable business. That's a new information for me.
No one technically knows if they spend more than they make, but they make a lot. 7.2 Billion in Q3 2021 alone. They don’t report their cost of revenue, because they don’t have to
Twitch, Instagram etc. Hulu competes with YouTube TV for live channels.
They had 50+ competitors in 2006. They all lost.
FB also had lot of competitors and they all lost. Then tiktok came in the market.
