Why are commercials predominantly black actors?

I thought we were aiming for diversity — but it seems commercials are at least 50% black, when they’re roughly 13% of the population. What is the point of the over representation? I just saw a T-Mobile commercial with the hockey players being black guys, which isn’t even factually correct. This is a serious question, I am happy for all people to chime in. What is the point? I hate the lack of diversity. 13% of the population but seemingly prominent in every single commercial.

T-Mobile orih Mar 25, 2022

we tune our 5G brainwashing signals specifically to make black guys play more hockey

Wheres the data to back your claims?

Amazon shoshnebut OP Mar 25, 2022

No specific data, but I’m sure you watch TC and notice — all these interracial couples that aren’t statistical, or an old Korean lady watching the WNBA. I just think it’s dumb. Why don’t you ever see any Indians in commercials?

Probably because appealing to the white culture is the most profitable, and everything/everyone else just seems to appear as virtue signaling

White people have played POC characters all this time. It is OK for black people to play non black characters.

Amazon shoshnebut OP Mar 25, 2022

True, but they seem to be grossly over represented and the lack of diversity is bothering me.

Amazon shoshnebut OP Mar 25, 2022

Have we really gotten to this point? You need X amount of demographics to appease the mob?

ServiceNow gpi86re Mar 25, 2022

Yes. Separate but related, see Wells Fargo LinkedIn page. 95% black in the post photos. As if 95% of banking customers are really black.

Microsoft dREj18 Mar 25, 2022

A little over correction in the year or two after the Black Lives Matter movement isn’t a big deal. Let it have some time, and maybe a more proportional representation of all races will come.

Amazon shoshnebut OP Mar 25, 2022

This is a level headed response. I have always tried to be fair, 65-70% of this country is white, totally understand we shouldn’t have 100% white people in a show or movie! But you’re right, probably an over correction.

Microsoft HefePesos Mar 25, 2022

Virtue signal, be woke. It’s an overcorrection from not having had as much representation in the past. At least Benetton ads were actually diverse. Also you’re totally right, but voicing an opinion like yours IRL will get you labeled a racist before you can blink.

Amazon shoshnebut OP Mar 25, 2022

I get banned very frequently on here for stuff like this. I try to be very fair and start open dialogue, but I guess I’m not woke enough for the mob! Virtual signaling is just the absolute worst.
