The rule throughout all of capitalism is the closer you are to the revenue, the higher you are paid. Business owners have made wealth for thousands of years because they own 100% of the profits. Sales reps have made bank forever because they bring in the revenue. Doctors and lawyers are rich because they generate large amounts of money that only a limited number of people can do. Tech workers are no different. Tech has arguably the highest profit margin of any industry. The only concern right now is the fact that everybody is jumping on the bandwagon because tech has a lower barrier to entry. But the fundaments of creating/maintaining products that have created trillions of dollars of value isn’t going away. My brother sells cars without a high school degree and makes $250K a year. It’s really not rocket science. I know a lot of people are concerned about outsourcing but that just really isn’t a option for alot of tech. The US government is the largest consumer in the entire world, they have spent $2T on tech in the last 20 years alone. Outsourcing on a large scale simply isn’t going to work for them. We are entering an era where awareness of tech national security is at an all time high. I don’t think everyone is aware how in bed Big Tech is with the US Government, particularly Amazon and Microsoft. A large chunk of our cloud revenue comes from them. The US government doesn’t want large scale outsourcing for critical parts of the platforms they use. TC: $300K
This is what ppl don't understand it's not just car salesman, nurses, investment bankers, etc all make great tc. My buddy is a police officer makes 200k
My uncle makes $500k/yr driving Uber
Not sure I understand your point OP
So? What’s the point? It looks like you never wrote a 6 pager at Amazon.
I know a chick who paid her own college tuition by peeing on men. Not joking.
I thought about referencing that but didn’t want to get banned That is officially the highest profit industry in world history lol
Being a good salesman in general is highly valuable. No matter how good your product is, if you can’t sell it, it doesn’t matter.
A good product sells itself
My fav striper make 400k. Coming to car salesman and striper, you may be looking at the more successful ones, instead of the median.
This is a bait post, but I’ll assume you’re serious. We do not care about becoming salesmen, doctors or lawyers because those fields require serious investment and time that is usually not worth the effort; maybe sales, but with the market being the way it is, sales has become a lot more difficult and a potential recession could outright turn the entire industry on its head. The latter two are school intensive and are chock full of regulations that prevent you from doing anything meaningful. Not everyone is qualified or fit to start and run a business; the failure rate for businesses is sky high—this is coming from someone who started entrepreneurship and freelancing when I was younger. Stop using survivor bias to justify your own bias against tech workers. Your brother beat the odds and is not indicative of a typical car salesman; likewise tech jobs have plenty of perks that jobs such as sales and even grunt jobs don’t. The U.S. government might have an effect on tech demand in the short term due to Fed influence, but tech is still humming along well and is likely to lead to better salaries from everyone else who enters the industry. TC: $44/hr
I wasn’t implying we should switch. I was implying we should stay right where we are!
@TWG I think you misunderstood - OP is telling us to not panic as there will always be money in tech!

Chubby is laughing at two things: 1. Tech has arguably the highest profit margin of any industry. > Railroads have the highest margins. They are just not everywhere like technology. 2. Your brother makes 250K selling cars. > He is not actually helping society like the doctors or lawyers (that actually care).
