Take as example the "Senior Software Engineer" role at Netflix in the US: Glassdoor: $160-222k, apparently based on 845 salaries submitted. Reality: $400-650k, based on reportings everywhere outside Glassdoor like Blind, levels fyi, Reddit, etc. Even for my own company, I can confirm that SWE TCs on Glassdoor appear to be shifted 100k-200k lower than actual. Why does this discrepancy exist? Is there a coordinated disinformation campaign on Glassdoor to suppress SWE salaries?
The ones in Glassdoor is probably not exclusively Bay Area and Seattle salaries form FAANG like blind is. It still seems to much for a national average if you ask me.
I make sure to filter to the right locations.
I think their data may be very outdated. Like a decade outdated
Glassdoor blows. There’s not another answer.
I will warn you of this. Remember Netflix used to not have levels. Everyone was a “Senior Software Engineer”. So levels.fyi has some crazy high L5 salaries that are no longer reality.
Excellent point
If you search for recent offers, L5 is still consistently around 500k. Way off from the Glassdoor range.
