If TC is so high, why don’t more of the youth become engineers? Any thoughts?
Software engineers? 1. Not everyone’s in it for the money 2. Sucks staring at a computer all day 3. Not everyone makes the big bucks
They actually are. At least at top-ranked schools cs is one of the most popular majors these days and every year that seems to be increasing. Ton of entry level swe applicants, it just hasn't proliferated up to mid-level and senior yet.
TC is for beginners, most kids aim higher
In many places in the US, making $80k/yr is quite comfortable, and while that's still significantly above the median wage, it's doable through a variety of fields. If you're not living in Sf Bay area or NYC and you have no intention to do so, there are many paths to being financially confortable
This. This dude knows stuff.
There's plenty of TC to be made in other places.
Lmao I think you’re overestimating the average software engineer
115 is not high actually. 15% of total population has IQ of 115 or above. If you can get into top 100 engineering schools and people don’t treat you like the dumbest in class, you probably has an IQ above 115.
Because its hard work
This. Who wants to work hard anymore? Not the young generation.
Yeah, true. Some of my white colleagues can easily make 2x TC if they want to accept 996.
Getting responses from recruiters isn't that difficult once you tweak your resume and LinkedIn profile. What is hard is getting into Lockheed or other defense contractors with out prior security clearance. Recruiters will talk to you all day until they see you do not have clearance
You act like defense contractors are worth getting into.
People wouldn't do it if it isn't worth it, thus the companies wouldn't exist.
Average engineer in US earns $75k
Shut up Gandu, it's not that easy
not all swe have the same wlb. i work a lot more than you and am stressed all the time. it’s something i’m trying to work on
