Yes and no. Self comparison has always been around but never at this scale. You have teenagers who don’t know any better comparing themselves to billionaire trust fund kids on IG.

I think not intentionally exploiting their insecurities with targeted content to make them feel worse (so they'll continue to consume more) would be a decent start...

Facebook can rank content in a way that reduces the exposure of toxic content. Facebook seems to do fine keeping pornography and terrorist recruitment off the platform. There is internal research brought to light that certain aspects of FB/IG are harmful, particularly teenage girls. Seems sensible to address this major issue rather than throw up our hands and do nothing. We make an effort to keep alcohol, motor vehicles, and major legal contracts away from underage people.

Blame the shitty education system instead
