Hello all I was pitching my idea of a GenAI infused travel app and I got questions from the folks I was pitching why can’t Google do this in Maps? Of course the idea can be replicated easily on Google Maps but then I believe Google could have also built Uber on Maps and Waze before Uber became something. They already had the Maps and Waze users. Would love to hear from Google folks especially those on Maps team why lot of travel kind of innovation isn’t happening on Google Maps?
What is gen ai infused travel app, is it an app with buzzword or the newest soft drink
It generates new places and new people to visit them. Like did you hear of Gasmo in Seattle? No? My app just generated that name 🤣
Uber provides service in physical world. To build uber you need ground force and get drivers onboarded to a platform. Build an existing where drivers onboard and stick. Lot of operations so difficult for google to build. Travel app on the other hand is something that shares information on web but no other service in real world. This is easily replicated and served via google-search/maps. Similar to how 'top places to visit in london' works with all the cards on maps. Ps I'm from maps.
What’s the top places to work card on Maps? As Maps team thought why they haven’t thought of showing best travel options on Maps?
Too places to visit not 'work'. There's hotels and flights already on maps.
Somebody at Google would have thought of it and built a prototype. It was killed for lack of traction. Google comes up with great ideas and kills them.
Google will build something if it makes business sense, they won’t build Uber no, it’s so operationally heavy and doesn’t fit their biz model
Why don’t you built it first and get a patent?
I don’t think software feature innovation has patent moat. Big companies can easily copy and let you fight them for years on patent infringement. As a startup you won’t have money to fight that lawsuit
Yes you can get a software patent, if you’ve worked at software company that’s the first thing they do, get a patent
