Technical program managers I’ve worked with are pretty much slack bots as far as I can tell. Pls don’t get butthurt
You work at Amazon tho 🤦🏻♂️
We replaced 🧍♂️with 🦍
They can be replaced
Well every role can and will be replaced by bots sooner or later. Bad TPMs only ask for status of things and that is easy to replace. Good TPMs do scoping, prioritization and planning and that is not easy thing to automate (try it)
If you want the honest answer, it’s because folks don’t always respond and it’s too annoying to get a response. There’s a ton of people who miss deadlines and just hope that no one calls them out on it. Much easier to hire a TPM who can be 1/2 or even 1/4 the cost of otherwise hiring additional PMs or Engineering Managers.
Can’t pip a bot.
You can certainly Control+D the MF
Why can engineers be replaced with bots?
Yep. The problem with tpm and PM is they have massive value at high levels (L6+ equivalent) but are somewhere between neutral and net negative at lower levels. So the question is "how do you get high level tpms and pms?" You either source horizontally, converting mid level eng into those roles. Or you accept the cost of low level tpm and PM being fucking worthless, as a training pathway
Why can’t folks deliver on time and provide timely updates when they can’t?
TPM at low level engg Level are annoying to the engg , it's just the dir or EM trying not to do mundane excel sheet work . I agree then can be replaced by a bot and ppl will be less annoyed . It's the biggest joke happening at faang today
