Salary is targeted to be the same each year for Base+Stock+Bonus. So if you think Amazon stock is going up and don't want to delay vesting, couldn't you buy the stocks now and sell the RSU's during vesting time to compensate?

Time value. If Amazon offered 50% on Day 1 then you could leave after the probation period (6-24 months) and get a new sign on bonus + higher base + better leadership at the company you actually want to work for
And you can always buy AMZN stocks. You don’t have to work there to buy their stocks. They don’t offer any ESPP
This makes no sense since they provide monthly bonuses for your first two years so your TC in years 1 and 2 are basically the same as years 3 and 4. I’d rather have stocks granted year 1 that vest in years 3 and 4 than have them granted and vest in the same year. This is how you get crazy stock appreciation.
People that don’t understand the compensation model complain. Huge advantage to having stocks granted at time of offer.
