Can someone who is familiar with scaling explain what could have led to this problem ? Aren’t the replica streams/ servers /load balancers setup for multiple million users ? Is testing (before the event) at this million of user scale not even possible ? Without blindly disparaging twitter engineers, hope some experts can shed light on difficulty of problem . #twitter
Its almost like laying off almost all your engineers and slashing infrastructure to "cut costs" in a wild fashion without proper analysis and a solid plan will come back to bite you. But I have been reminded that since I don't have billions of dollars I am not as smart as the person that decided to do this.
Elon is a genius, he wanted to sabotage his campaign
Remember a few months ago how he was bragging about "disconnecting sensitive server racks" and shutting down data centers? Yeah
The question is when he asks to do a post mortem on the cause, which brave soul will tell him the real reason?
He probably has already fired the video team and gave the whole product to his cousin so his smart cousin can practice scala for dummies?
Elon is testing in production environment. Unfortunately for meatball Ron.
This is what happens when the money guy tries to be an engineer.
He fired the engineers who actually built the spaces feature. It was built as a quick and dirty prototype and was not fully integrated properly (I think it was part of periscope). After the layoffs there was nobody around to warn musk that spaces was still left as a prototype and would have technical glitches if they were to try and use it for anything with serious traffic. That's the power of institutional knowledge.
Elon is the root cause
They laid off 90%
