https://fortune.com/2023/07/07/andy-jassy-dismisses-microsoft-google-ai-hype-cycle-amazon-starting-substance-cycle/ He also called many of today’s A.I. chatbots and other generative A.I. tools part of the “hype cycle,” declaring that Amazon was focused on the “substance cycle.” Everyone is on the same hype cycle, Amazon is no different. He sounds so stupid saying that. And all AI services will host on Google and Microsoft as well. Why would they not? It's like saying MongoDB will only use AWS exclusively. MS and Google do have an advantage with office productivity suites that Amazon can't compete with. #amazon #aws
Unreal we don’t have Amazon AI Chatbots. We’re in the dust of pioneering trailblazers and it’s embarrassing.
Because Amazon couldn’t come up with any comparable offering.
whataboutery at best
Reminds me of blackberry CEO mentioning the first iPhone to be useless because it didn’t have a keypad.
At this rate we will be the next Blockbuster, BlackBerry, Yahoo!, Kodak, Kmart… who else?
Amazon has the best use case for an AI assistant: they own a massive online store which is way too large to be browsed efficiently in a GUI, and they have a lot of data that would allow them to offer the right product to each customer. The problem is that at this point they don’t seem to want to offer the right product to each customer in their online store. They make reviews consistently harder to parse and read, they have no discernible quality control so that non-functional fakes are consistently barred (come on, order a USB key, I dare you), and the search function is broken with sponsored products and other chicanery: some of those are the fakes I was talking about.
It might damage revenue at the end with ai chat. Msft has some decent product but it won’t be release due to revenue impact.
Mothballing products because they “impact revenue” from legacy products is the easiest way to get disrupted by a competitor, and then the impact on revenue will be even greater.
It’s a ploy by Wall Street to keep the bubble going by hyping up ChatGPT around the stock market bottom last year. This particular “AI” is glorified Google search that Google Assistant was already capable of. Andy Jassy might be right here.
Have you tried making a real application with an LLM?
Waiting for someone to blame DEI for Amazon’s failure on Gen AI lol.
He knows that AI is a fad. He's going long on block chain based crypto currency that you can spend on web 3.0 on totally not illegal things.
Honestly, ChatGPT was kind of overblown. I do think it’s helpful/useful. But the way people were blowing up it’s utility was extreme.
To be fair, it was good. But it’s somehow got worse
OpenAI degraded its performance to prevent misuse.
